The Mazunte Project is a collaboration with the Centro Mexicano de la Tortuga (Mexican Turtle Center) that was started in 2001.  It is a canine spay/neuter program that was initiated in response to the large numbers of dogs that were roaming the important turtle nesting beaches eating the eggs and hatchlings and occasionally attacking and killing the adult turtles laying eggs.

The pictures below are those of the volunteer veterinarians, technicians and assistants from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Michigan and California who donated their time and resources to the project this year.  We spayed or neutered 309 dogs and took part in the release of 59 Leatherback hatchlings.
